Immigration authorities have detained a Hamilton man who they say is wanted for murder in his home country of El Salvador, officials announced Thursday.

According to a statement from an unnamed ICE spokesperson, Salvador Hernandez-Solorzano, 33, was arrested on April 22 in Hamilton. ICE and the FBI allege Hernandez-Solorzano is a member of the MS-13 gang, which federal officials consider to be a terrorist organization.

“Hernandez is an illegal alien from El Salvador who is wanted in his home country on murder charges and is a member of the designated foreign terrorist organization MS-13,” reads the statement from ICE.

The FBI’s Cincinnati office released a statement on social media, saying Hernandez-Solorzano and “his associate are in the U.S. illegally,” though no information about the other detainee was provided.

CityBeat has reached out to the regional ICE office to request a copy of Hernandez-Solorzano’s arrest warrant from El Salvador, as well as the department’s evidence of his alleged MS-13 affiliation.

Hernandez-Solorzano is now in ICE custody at the Butler County Jail pending immigration proceedings, according to ICE. CityBeat has requested Hernandez-Solorzano’s hearing date.
