This summer, Cincinnati will showcase the true impact that women have in the music industry.

RiseUp, a global network that strives to advance women’s rights, will host a music series in Over-the-Rhine that launches in September and will continue over the next year.

With the help of Cincinnati Bell and Procter & Gamble, RiseUp will present its “Women’s Series,” a slew of concerts with bands led by female performers. The series will showcase RiseUp’s initiatives, which are “women’s rights, equality, education, sexual and reproductive health and justice, and economic empowerment,” by exemplifying women who have overcome the male-dominated music field.

Playing in the series are 10,000 Maniacs, Wild Child, Nella and The Wailin’ Jennys. Each group features a woman at lead vocals, and all of the bands playing are decorated with awards ranging from a Latin Grammy Award to a Juno Award to a Certified Platinum album.

10,000 Maniacs will kick off the series with a free show at 7 p.m. Sept. 17 in Washington Park. Wild Child will play a little over a week later at 8 p.m. Sept. 28 at Memorial Hall. Nella and The Wailin’ Jennys will play in the fall and winter months, with Nella performing at Memorial Hall at 7 p.m. Oct. 17 and The Wailin’ Jennys taking the same stage at a time to be determined on Feb. 9.

Tickets for each show can be purchased now at memorialhallotr.com.
