Since its renovation and reopening in late 2016, Over-the-Rhine’s Memorial Hall (Music Hall’s smaller neighbor) has become one of the best mid-size concert venues in the city, offering a theater-like setting with an intimate feel. Since reopening, the 560-seat facility with state-of-the-art sound (built to compliment the well-designed natural acoustics) has hosted Rosanne Cash, Richard Thompson, Polica, Los Lobos, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, I’m With Her, Cincinnati’s own Over the Rhine and many others.
The MEMO (as it goes by now) has an impressive roster of concerts coming up before the year’s end, including a few in the Longworth-Anderson Series, which launched in early 2017 and has featured Grammy-nominated and -winning artists. Local Americana greats The Tillers and Honey & Houston will perform at a “Celebrate the Series” concert on Oct. 18, which will raise funds for the LAS and Friends of Memorial Hall.
Later in October, the LAS brings in Stephen Marley, the son of Bob and Rita Marley who has scored eight Grammys in his career. Tickets ($31-$46) for the Oct. 30 acoustic show are available here.
On Nov. 28, Americana faves The Lone Bellow perform at the LAS as part of their TRIIIO tour, during which the three members gather
around one microphone and play acoustically, extending a popular feature in the band’s live show. Tickets ($35-$55) are available here.
Other non-LAS shows coming up at Memorial Hall include Guess Who and Bachman-Turner Overdrive legend Randy Bachman (Sept. 26), Ray Wylie Hubbard and Arlo McKinley (Oct. 4), Storm Large (Oct. 19), The Secret Sisters and Harpeth Rising (Nov. 8), Andrew McMahon and the Wilderness (performing acoustically with guests Justin Furstenfeld of Blue October and Nick Brown on Dec. 6) and Over the Rhine, who return Dec. 21-23 for their annual hometown holiday concerts.
