Cincinnati mayoral candidates Aftab Pureval and David Mann will go head to head in a debate at Xavier University at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21.
Pureval and Mann emerged as the top two vote-getters during the mayoral primary in May. Pureval led with 39% of the primary vote, while Mann had 29%. They will face off in the general election on Nov. 2.
Pureval is Hamilton County’s current clerk of courts. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Ohio State University and a juris doctorate from the University of Cincinnati College of Law. He was an associate with the international law firm White & Case for several years. Pureval spent a year as a special assistant United States attorney and then became counsel for global beauty care at Procter & Gamble. He has served as clerk of courts since 2017.
David Mann is a Cincinnati City Council member. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Harvard University in biochemical sciences followed by a legum baccalaureus (a precursor to today’s juris doctorate) from Harvard Law School. Mann served in the United States Navy, won a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, and has had several long stints on City Council. He served as Cincinnati’s mayor for three years and owns a local law firm with his son.
The debate is open to the public, but attendees must have previously registered. The Cincinnati Enquirer will livestream the event on Facebook.
Current Cincinnati mayor John Cranley announced in August that he would run to become Ohio’s next governor. Cranley’s second and final term as mayor ends this year, and the election of a new mayor for Cincinnati will take place on Nov. 2.
