Cincinnati City Council is paving the way for more high-paying jobs in the city’s urban core.
With unanimous vote approval at Wednesday’s meeting, the Cincinnati City Council supported a tax exemption to AAA Club Alliance Inc. (or a related company approved by the city manager) as part of a Community Reinvestment Area Agreement. Councilman Mark Jeffreys said this will bring an additional 165 high-paying jobs to the region. He added that over the next decade, these new jobs would generate $1.8 million in earnings tax revenue.
“There are 30 jobs that were remote that will now be in-person,” he said. “There are an additional 135 full-time jobs, with an average salary of $75,000, that will be relocated here or are new jobs.”
The agreement gives AAA Club Alliance a 15-year tax exemption on improvements to 15 W. Central Parkway in downtown Cincinnati. The company plans to remodel an existing building into about 55,000 square feet of office space and 4,000 square feet of retail space, at a cost of about $24 million, according to the council’s agenda.
AAA Club Alliance is an automobile association, best known for its roadside assistance offerings. “They have a bunch of different networks throughout the country, and a big center for them is here in Cincinnati, on Central Parkway,” Jeffreys said. “They are consolidating a lot of jobs here. So this is actually really exciting.”
He said this influx of jobs would bring in about $181,000 in earnings tax to the city each year.
“This is what we need more of,” the councilman said. “Obviously, more jobs mean more earnings tax for us, so we can do everything you know we need to do to keep the public safe, build more affordable housing, and meet all the priorities we have as a city.”
