U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris will visit Cincinnati on Friday (April 30) as part of the “America Back on Track Tour.”
Harris’s visit reportedly will revolve around public transit as an economic driver. Details of the itinerary are scarce, but Sen. Sherrod Brown, of Cleveland, will moderate a discussion with Cincinnati Metro, the Enquirer reports.
CityBeat has reached out to the White House for comment.
U.S. President Joe Biden recently put forth the “American Jobs Plan,” which, in part, asks Congress to invest $85 billion in modern transit.
“These investments will maintain existing transit labor protections, including the preservation of rights and benefits of employees under existing collective bargaining agreements and continuation of collective bargaining rights,” a release from the White House says.
The American Jobs plan also would address infrastructure needs, devoting $600 billion to transportation infrastructure, the White House says. $115 billion would be used to repair roads and bridges.
According to state inspectors, Ohio has 1,377 structurally deficient bridges. Hamilton County has 14 of those, Butler County has 36, Clermont County 27, and Warren County 12.
In Kentucky, the White House says there are 1,033 structurally deficient bridges.
And one of the worst bridges in the nation spans both states — the Brent Spence Bridge, whose issues officials have promised to fix for decades.
The Biden-Harris administration marks its first 100 days in office on Thursday, with two of the hallmarks being a $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package and 200 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine in arms by the milestone.
