During a layover in Los Angeles while en route to China for a vacation, Gregg Frank of Fort Wright decided to test his luck at the nation's beloved television game show, The Price is Right

If you're not familiar — the game show, hosted by Drew Carey, gives participants the opportunity to play games and activities based around accurately guessing prices in order to win prizes. Prizes range from modest things like a humidifier to larger items such as a new car.

The episode aired April 1, and while it may have fallen on April Fool's Day, the winnings were no joke. Frank won over $20,000 in prizes during the gameshow, including a new laptop, dishwasher, printer and 2019 Kia Rio.

Frank, who happens to be the father of CityBeat publisher Tony Frank, wasn't able to tell his family about winning the gameshow.

"Knowing it had to be kept a secret until it aired was painstaking," he said. Being a long-time fan of the show, it was a bucket list item and a once-in-a-lifetime experience. "It was totally unexpected and surreal. It was exhilarating when it was all over."
