One of Cincinnati’s most exciting and badass sports organizations is hosting a boot camp series for the next consecutive six Sundays.

Starting on Sept. 17 and occurring every Sunday until Oct. 22, the Cincinnati Rollergirls are offering boot camps to anyone 18 and up who is interested in the sport. Think you have what it takes to be a Rollergirl? Or just want to get some fun, exhilarating exercise in? The series promises lessons in skating form, footwork, stops, transitions, contact like hitting and positional blocking and basic derby gameplay.

Your teachers will of course be some of the talented, tough, strong, fast and glamorous Rollergirls like Killary Clinton (#444), Bomb Betty (#17), Gouda Sk8tr (#8) or Kat A Strophic (#05). The Cincinnati Rollergirls are internationally ranked in the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association and have been around for over a decade.

Participation is $100 for all six sessions. Each day begins at 10 a.m. and ends at noon. Some loaner gear will be available on a first-come first-serve basis. Everyone must provide their own mouthguard (because who wants to share that?) dut to it being a high-contact sport. According to a press release, all drills will be taught from a roller derby perspective, but anyone can benefit from the series. New skater or experienced roller, the boot camp is for everyone.
Near the end of camp, participants can experience a mock tryout. Maybe you’ll fall in love with the sport and have firsthand experience in what it might feel like to make the team; maybe you just want to see what you’re made of. Either way, this is an exclusive opportunity. The sessions also end in “level-appropriate” scrimmages once rollers are ready.

The Cincinnati Rollergirls season starts in Spring 2024. For more information about the team or how to register for boot camp visit cincinnatirollergirls.com.
