Two Cincinnati hotels have been ranked as some of the best in the Midwest by Condé Nast Traveler readers, with downtown's 21c Museum Hotel taking top honors.

In the 2020 Readers’ Choice Awards poll of more than 715,000 individuals, 21c Museum hotel Cincinnati was named the No. 1 Hotel in the Midwest, with Madisonville's The Summit coming in a No. 11. The 21c in Cincinnati was also named the No. 8 best hotel in the U.S.

“We are humbled by the support of our fans and guests, who made the effort to recognize us during a time when almost no one was traveling,” says Shelley Meszoly, general manager of 21c Cincinnati. “21c Cincinnati is more than a place to sleep. We are proud to be a meaningful part of the cultural and economic life of our city, and I am exceptionally proud of the heartfelt hospitality that our team extends to every person who visits."

We've long been fans of the 21c Museum Hotels—chic properties that double as contemporary art museums. And the Cincinnati outpost, which opened its doors in late 2012, is one of the best the brand has to offer. The property sits in the 100-year-old former Metropole Hotel in downtown Cincinnati, and the 21c architects and designers made sure to integrate many of the building's original features, including the lobby's mosaic tile floors, the sweeping staircase leading to the ballroom, and gorgeous terra cotta that lines the exterior. The 156-room hotel boasts a rooftop bar and spa, along with the Metropole restaurant...plus 8,000 square feet of exhibition and event space (artwork rotates regularly). Rooms are minimal and sleek, but have pops of artwork on the walls, lest you forget where you are for a moment.

21c has reopened to guests, as has the Spa at 21c and in-house restaurant Metropole, which has just hired a new executive chef — Vanessa Miller — who has crafted a new fall menuTo view current artworks on display, make a free reservation here.

The Summit hotel in Madisonville, also home to the Overlook Kitchen + Bar, also got reader accolades at the No. 11 Midwest spot.

“Joining the other elite hotels selected by Condé Nast Traveler readers as the best in the world is an extraordinary honor for us. We’re proud to be one of only two hotels in Ohio on the Condé Nast list. As first-time winners this year of not only a Condé Nast  award but also a AAA Four Diamond award, we’re humbled by the validation from both our guests and the industry’s leading travel experts,” said Martin Pittman, AT Hospitality Vice President of Operations.

The full list of winners can be found at cntraveler.com.

“The results of this year’s survey, conducted at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, are a testament to the lasting power of a meaningful travel experience,” said Jesse Ashlock, U.S. Editor of Condé Nast Traveler. “The winners represent the best of the best for our audience and offer plenty of trip-planning inspiration for all the adventures we can’t wait to have next.”
