Registration has begun to embark on an paddling exploration of Cincinnati's Mill Creek.
Led by veterans of the Mill Creek Yacht Club, the adventure will take place on Saturday, Oct. 17 and lead participants through "the wonders of the Mill Creek while learning about our long-abused but surprisingly resurgent urban stream," the event page reads.
"On this urban stream adventure you will gain panoramic views of stream channelization, enjoy the beauty of tree-lined riparian corridor, and be a part of our first ever MCYC Paddle/Peddle Stream Adventure."
According to the an email from the Mill Creek Alliance, the 5-mile float kicks off at the ramp near Mitchell Avenue ondto South I-75, and ends at the yellow bridge in South Cumminsville. There will be no shuttles involved in the event, so paddlers will need to either bring their bike or walking shoes to the end of the route, and then return to the beginning of the trail.
This will be the inaugural Mill Creek Bike/Paddle Loop trip as a "Public Stream Adventure," according to the Mill Creek Alliance's website. Veterans of the Yacht Club have been working hard over the summer to produce bike and paddle loops to prevent the need for shuttles.
"We will spend about 3 hours on the water with educational stops along the way, plus about an hour of combined time on the land before and after paddling. Water level may create need for last-minute changes in plan and/or dragging of canoes at times."
Participants may bring their own watercraft or use one of the organization's.
There are only a few spots left, and tickets range in price from $25 for single kayaks (whether you're renting or bringing your own) to $50 for a canoe for two.
