Like a fine wine, ice cream only gets better with age. Just kidding: It doesn't; it turns into ice cream soup.

But a local ice cream maker reaching a milestone birthday is something worth celebrating, especially when they're sharing the cake.

For their 150th anniversary, Graeter's family-owned ice cream has launched a new Birthday Cake flavored ice cream — a "blend of cake pieces and sprinkles in cake batter ice cream," according to a release. (They also recently released a limited-edition birthday cake donut.)

"Our anniversary year certainly hasn’t turned out the way we initially thought it would," said Richard Graeter, fourth-generation family member, President and CEO of Graeter’s Ice Cream, in the release. "However, we still think the world needs something worth celebrating. With new flavors, such as our 150th Birthday Cake, to kick off the summer, we guarantee we’ll be able to offer consumers a taste of joy and happiness in 2020.”

Starting July 1 — coincidentally the first day of National Ice Cream month — Graeter's Birthday Cake ice cream will be available in scoop shops as well as supermarkets including Kroger, Jungle Jim's, The Fresh Market and more (while supplies last).

In addition to the birthday cake options, Graeter's will also be releasing some special Bonus Flavors this summer, starting with the first secret flavor release on July 6.
