Looking for the best cup of coffee in Ohio? You won't have to go far.
Food & Wine magazine senior editor David Landsel has made a list of the "best coffee shops in every state," and Mom 'n 'em Coffee & Wine in Camp Washington secures the top spot for the Buckeye State.
Landsel's write-up lists the shop's "West Coast-chic environment" and "Italian-American hospitality" as part of the reason for his selection:
Two restaurant industry vets that could have gone anywhere—and did, making a herculean effort in San Francisco—moved home to Cincinnati, once again hoping to make their mark, this time on a town that could always use more believers. At Austin and Tony Ferrari's Mom'n 'Em Coffee & Wine, you'll feel the warm hug of Italian-American hospitality (yes, Mom is real, and she's often behind the counter) in a hugely appealing, West Coast-chic environment on the ground level of a converted home, the energy from the shop spilling out onto the expansive side patio, all day long. A second location opens all the way across town, later this spring.
Mom 'n 'em posted to social media about the recent accolades, saying, "After a brutal two years and still ongoing battles near and far in our world, we were recognized not only for the coffee, but the entire team that makes Mom ‘n ‘em what it is today!"
This isn't the first time Landsel or Food & Wine has praised the shop, helmed by brothers Austin and Tony Ferrari (who also run Fausto in the Contemporary Arts Center). In July 2019, Landsel spent the day as a barista at Mom 'n 'em, highlighting the coffee, the environment and the renovated historic Camp Washington home where the shop is located. At that time he said it "might actually be one of the best new coffee shops in the country."
That point was further solidified in Food & Wine's November 2019 list of the best coffee shops in America, when Mom 'n 'em took home the No. 5 spot.
Mom ‘n ‘em is a passion project for the Ferrari brothers. A “third place” that’s not home and not work, the Camp Washington coffee shop and wine bar is located inside a former 1890s home and is reserved for talking shop, drinking vino or a cup of joe and hanging loose for a handful of hours. With a table-and-comfy-chair-filled living room and dining room spaces, there’s a diverse offering of wines, coffee options, a full liquor license, snacks and even tinned fish.
If you want to take a little of the Ferrari brothers’ spirit home with you, you can grab a bag of their special namesake-blend espresso. But it is best experienced in person.
