The Saks Fifth Avenue department store in downtown Cincinnati is set to close this year.

Open since 1983, Saks Fifth Avenue sent an email to customers on June 22, disclosing that the store at 101 W. 5th St. would be closing by the end of 2022 with no specific closing date.

“We are committed to treating every associate with respect and fairness throughout the process; all eligible associates will receive appropriate employment separation packages and transfer opportunities will be explored where feasible,” said a Saks Fifth Avenue spokesperson in the June 22 email.

There have been no announcements of Saks Fifth Avenue moving anywhere else in the city.

This closure follows the shuttering of the Macy’s department store in 2018. The former space that housed the Macy's department store is currently being transformed by developers 3CDC into the mixed-use development The Foundry.

The Foundry already has multiple businesses slated to open in the space, including French brasserie Royce, which will be located in the former Tiffany's, Jeff Ruby’s Downtown Steakhouse and Five Iron Golf.

Time will tell what lays ahead for the Saks Fifth Avenue space.
