PromoWest Pavilion at OVATION has changed its name, and people aren't exactly loving it, to say the least. On Aug. 22, the music venue announced its name was changing to MegaCorp Pavilion.
If you think the name sounds like something out of a bad science fiction movie, you're not the only one. Hundreds of social media users flooded the venue's Instagram and Twitter announcement posts to share their opinions on the name change.
The venue's new sponsor and namesake MegaCorp Logistics is a North Carolina-based logistics firm with offices in Kentucky, North Carolina, West Virginia and Florida. They responded to many of the negative comments in the thread with one canned response: "We’re a family-owned logistics company and we’re looking forward to carrying on PromoWest and Ovation’s great work at the pavilion. You can follow us @megacorplogistics to see what we’re all about, and we think you’ll like us once you get to know us!"
Cincinnatians were somewhat happy with the previous change of fellow music venue the Andrew J Brady ICON Music Center to just Andrew J Brady Music Center in December of last year, and were hoping for a similar change to the PromoWest Pavilion at OVATION, but unfortunately, it did not end in the people's favor.
This name change follows the recent trend in Cincinnati stadiums of taking on corporate-sponsored titles. On Aug. 9 the Bengals stadium was renamed the Paycor Stadium after donning the name Paul Brown Stadium since it was built in 2000.
