Inside Third Eye Brewing, Sharonville's Funky New Watering Hole

“LIVE LIFE. DO GOOD. DRINK BEER.” This is the mantra of Sharonville’s Third Eye Brewing and it sounds like a philosophy everyone could benefit from. Third Eye is the newest brewery to hit the Cincinnati beer scene, hosting its grand opening June 17. This funky brewery has been a labor of love and a dream of owners Tom Schaefer, Terry Krieg, Mark Buchy and brothers Tom and Tim Collins for years. Tom Collins and Tom Schaefer started brewing individually for family and friends decades ago, but finally decided to turn their passion into a career in 2015 when they began the research that would eventually lead to the opening of Third Eye. The team opted for Sharonville’s Northern Lights District because of the revitalization process it has been undergoing and its proximity to hotels, local businesses and the Sharonville Convention Center. “It is the perfect location to draw from the inner-city boroughs as well as the suburban communities alike,” says Bonnie Collins, Third Eye’s event coordinator. “The City of Sharonville has been very supportive and great to work with and we are excited to be part of the family.” Walk in to the brewery and you are faced with a vibrant and whimsical atmosphere, with a colorful and slightly psychedelic mural by David Jonathan Uy serving as the centerpiece of the bar and giving the industrial space some “warmth and character,” says Collins. Collins says they strive to “blur the line between the inside and out” with a covered patio and indoor/outdoor bar seating. The creative design of the space goes hand in hand with their unique and playful brews, including Jelly Brain, a milkshake IPA with pineapple and coconut, and Beyond Sight, a brown ale with hazelnut. More traditional brews are up for grabs, too, like the West Coast IPA called Third Eye P.A. and a chocolate oatmeal stout named Astral. All are created by the brewing team, led by Kelly Montgomery and Chloe Schaefer. Chef Steven Vanderpool has designed a menu to match the creativity of the rest of the experience with “a bit of Southern and Cajun flare to spice things up,” says Collins, including a low country shrimp boil and Cajun garlic herb wings. Third Eye Brewing lives their motto with a commitment to collaborate with local organizations and charities to give back to the community. They have already teamed up with the Live Like Maya Foundation, supporting pediatric cancer research and helping the families of children battling the disease. Though this has been a challenging year to open a new business, Third Eye has kept a positive outlook throughout “Our opening date was delayed a bit, but not a big deal in the grand scheme of things,” says Collins. “We are all in this together and need to help each other to keep everyone safe and healthy. The world need more kindness, patience and empathy and we hope to be a positive force as we enter this new adventure.” Third Eye Brewing is located at 11276 Chester Road, Sharonville.
