You Can Stay at a 'Game of Thrones'-Inspired Airbnb on Your Next Trip to Lexington

Fans of the HBO hit series Game of Thrones will want to make a special trip to Lexington to stay in an Airbnb designed to pull you right into the fantasy series.

With every detail planned and thought out to give guests an in-depth Westeros experience, hosts Wayne Ebersohl and Rachel Johnson say their themed Airbnb rentals are a big draw to the weekend-getaway crowds looking for something different.

The Game of Thrones Airbnb is located in a 1800s building in the Lexington Historic District, just steps away from downtown's restaurants and nightlife. Ebersohl says he and Johnson started their business after coming back from a bad Airbnb experience in Nashville.

"On the three-hour ride home, I was complaining and I said, 'I could do better than that,'" he told CityBeat. He and Johnson, his partner, bought the building, which was once apartments, and began dividing them up into one-bedroom guest rooms. They now have nine Airbnbs total, including six in the downtown Lexington building.

Ebersohl says when it came to the themed rooms, he and Johnson wanted to give travelers a unique experience and do something that stood out.

"We just kind of started brainstorming and thinking about what was popular and what we loved and came across Game of Thrones and thought, 'Well that would be exciting! Let's do that,'" Ebersohl said. "[Johnson] is the lead designer of them all. And she gets her hands dirty by taking on some of the creative, physical build-out too."

To get the look of the Game of Thrones room right, Ebersohl and Johnson contracted with a woodworking company in Georgetown, Kentucky, to craft the California king-sized bed, coffee bar and mantel. For some of the medieval decor, they bought from a Ukrainian blacksmith on Etsy and brought in a chandelier from England.

"When we found something that fit our vision, there was no substituting it," said Ebersohl.

In addition to the Game of Thrones room, Ebersohl and Johnson also offer an aviation-themed room. A Red Room replica from the Fifty Shades of Grey  franchise is also in the works. That will also be housed in the same building as the Game of Thrones room. You can find all their listings here.

Note: Sorry, currently there is nowhere to park your dragon, so plan on traveling by vehicle.
