Downtown's 21c Museum Hotel's in-house restaurant Metropole is pairing with local cookbook author (and CityBeat contributor) Garin Pirnia on a pre-Oktoberfest beer cheese dinner on Thursday, Sept. 20.
Pirnia's cookbook, The Beer Cheese Book, unravels the history and recipes for Central Kentucky's classic cold beer cheese dip, including how to travel along the Beer Cheese Trail. The recipes included in her book range from pawpaw beer cheese to beer cheese casserole and beer cheese buttermilk biscuits.
For the dinner, Metropole chef Jared Bennett will be crafting a similarly inspired menu using beer cheese in unlikely ways. Each course will be paired with an Oktoberfest beer from Cincinnati breweries, including MadTree, Rhinegeist, Braxton, Taft's Ale House and Fifty West. Pirnia will also be giving commentary before each course to add context and history.
The menu includes:
- Passed canapes: twice-baked potatoes with scallions and pancetta and mustard-pickled deviled eggs
- A charred pear and argulua salad with papaw, croutons and chive
- Pimenton spaccatelli with charred broccoli and fonduta
- Grilled mettwurst with Weisenberg grits and braised cabbage
- Apple hand pies
Dinner is 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20. The menu is priced at $55 per person and includes four courses and beer pairings. Please RSVP to 513-578-6660. The Metropole at 21c is located at 609 Walnut St., Downtown, metropoleonwalnut.com.
