Columbus-based pizza chain Donatos will begin offering some exciting new menu options starting Jan. 27.

The restaurant is catering to the current low-carb and plant-based dietary trends by debuting a crust made with cauliflower and a plant-based sausage topping. The cauliflower crust is gluten-free and has 30 percent fewer carbs than the pizzeria's Famous Thin Crust; the meatless sausage is made with plant proteins and will "surprise you with its flavor," according to a menu description.

Donatos has three pizzas that combine both the new crust and new topping:

  • The Cauliflower Bruschetta — red sauce, smoked provolone, green peppers, onions, mushrooms and plant-based sausage
  • The Cauliflower Garden — red sauce, smoked provolone, green peppers, onions and plant-based sausage
  • And the Cauliflower Heat — red sauce, smoked provolone and pepper jack cheese, jalapenos, crushed red pepper and plant-based sausage

Guests can also build their own pizzas using the 10-inch cauliflower crust and/or add the plant-based sausage to any pie.

“Our menu innovation and culinary team did a tremendous job developing these pizzas,” said Tom Krouse, president and CEO of Donatos, in a press release. “Donatos strives to bring trending flavors and premium ingredients to our customers, and we are excited to add these delicious options to the Donatos menu as it provides more individual choice.”

The new menu items will be available at all Donatos locations.
