Smashing Pumpkin Pizza

The seasonal pumpkin craze has commenced, and Dewey’s Pizza is getting in on the autumnal fun with their new Smashing Pumpkin pizza.

The new pizza joins the menu on Sept. 19 along with the return of the fan-favorite Harvest Salad. The pizza will be available through Halloween and the Harvest Salad will stay on the menu until the end of the year. Dewey’s says the seasonal offerings will add a unique sweet-savory combination to their lineup.

The Smashing Pumpkin features a house-made whipped pumpkin ricotta base and is topped with mozzarella, crumbled Italian sausage, roasted shallots and toasted pumpkin seeds.

“The Smashing Pumpkin is the ultimate fall pizza with its sweet, salty and savory ingredient combination,” David Igel, head of product innovation and the creator of the Smashing Pumpkin, said in a press release. “We’ve been perfecting this recipe for over a year. The unique flavor of the base brings balanced undertones of sage and honey alongside the star ingredient, pumpkin.”

Dewey’s says the pizza was inspired by the pumpkin spice latte (PSL) trend and the growing popularity of savory pumpkin dishes. As for the name, it was inspired by The Smashing Pumpkins being on Dewey’s original playlist and the fact that the word “smashing” can also be used to describe something remarkable, which is how they describe the Smashing Pumpkin’s flavor.
