New App Helps You Keep Track of All of Greater Cincinnati's Fish Frys During Lent

You can also earn points to win prizes by checking in at fish frys and participating restaurants.

It’s the Lenten season in Cincinnati, which can only mean one thing: fish fry Fridays are back (that, and someone you know has given up chocolate for the next 40 days). So many churches — plus assorted savvy eateries — in Greater Cincinnati are offering some type of special fried fish dish on Fridays, but it can be hard to keep track of when and where all these fish frys are happening. Now, there is an app to help guide you.

Cincinnati web and mobile development company Patchboard designed the official Cincinnati Fish Fry app, which launched Friday. It can be downloaded for free from both Google Play and the App Store.

In the app, users can view the full list of fish frys and their menus and hours of operation. You can also sort and filter by location, carryout and more. If you don’t see your favorite fish fry or special listed, churches and restaurants can upload their information here to be listed.

You can also win prizes by supporting local fish frys throughout Lent. There are two ways to win:

1. Check in at four or more locations during the Lenten season (from now through March 28) to be automatically entered to win $100 in gift cards to Izzy’s.

2. Earn points by dining out and supporting the fish frys and eateries. The person with the most points at the end of Lent will also win $100 in gift cards to Izzy’s.

Greater Cincinnati Fish Frys You Need to Try

Chloe’s Eatery2872 Lawrenceburg Road, North BendChloe’s Eatery will be open on Ash Wednesday (Feb. 14) from 4-8 p.m. to serve up its limited-time breaded cod sandwich. Following Ash Wednesday, the fish sandwich will be available only on Fridays through March 29.

The Gatherall at Factory 522750 Park Ave., NorwoodFactory 52’s The Gatherall will host its inaugural, single-day fish fry feast on Friday, Feb. 16 starting at 11 a.m. The food hall will have a variety of meatless dishes and fish options available.

LaRosa’sMultiple locations LaRosa’s will serve its fish fry menu selections throughout Lent, starting Ash Wednesday, (Feb. 14) through Easter Sunday (March 31). It will feature the beer-battered fish hoagy, a beer-battered fish dinner, a tuna hoagy and a tuna salad plate as limited-time offerings. It’s also introducing the new Cauliflower Bites for the season.

Kolping Society10235 W. Mill Road, Springfield TownshipThis fish fry is held every Friday from Feb. 16 to March 15 from 5:30-7:30 p.m., doors open at 5 p.m. They’ll be offering fried or baked fish dinners for $14, shrimp dinners for $15, fried fish sandwiches for $12 and LaRosa’s cheese pizza for $2 a slice. The Kolping Haus bar is open with domestic and German beer offerings, and there will also be split-the-pot.

R&R Quality Meats4029 Harrison Ave., CheviotR&R Quality Meats’ fish fry menu is available on Ash Wednesday (Feb. 14) and every Friday until Easter from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. (lunch) and 4-6 p.m. (dinner).

Old St. Mary’s Church123 E. 13th St., Over-the-RhineOld St. Mary will hold its annual fish fry on March 1 along the Bockfest Parade route starting at 5 p.m.

Mary Queen of Heaven1150 Donaldson Highway, ErlangerFish frys will be held every Friday from 4-8 p.m. starting Feb. 16 to March 22. Dine-in, drive-thru and curbside pickup available.
