Coffia, 32 E. 13th St., Over-the-Rhine

A new coffee shop just opened its doors in Over-the-Rhine. Coffia will offer authentic Colombian coffee along with a variety of sweet and savory baked goods, pastries and beer and specialty cocktails, some of which will incorporate coffee.

The new concept at 32 E. 13th St. in 3CDC’s Columbia Flats project comes from Colombia native Christian Gonzalez. Gonzalez says he hopes Coffia can be a place where people can take a break, relax and hang out.

“I was drawn to Over-the-Rhine for its variety of art and culture,” Gonzalez said in a press release. “I want Coffia to be a place where people from all different backgrounds can mingle and learn about each other.”

Gonzalez came to New York from Colombia six years ago, where he met his wife, Edna. They relocated to Cincinnati and Gonzalez says he was driven to bring a piece of his home to the city in the form of fresh Colombian coffee.

“Coffee is not just beans. It’s an entire process and I want to represent that. Coffia is about love for art, love for coffee and love for people. It’s about sharing our culture,” he said.

Coffia’s interior, designed with help from New York-based artist Alejandro Munera, resembles a jungle, featuring vibrant neon colors, plants, coffee-themed artwork and other nods to Colombian culture. Gonzalez says the shop will also be decorated with work from various artists that can be purchased.

“3CDC is intentional about cultivating more diversity among business owners in the neighborhood, placing an emphasis on increasing the number of minority-owned businesses in OTR storefronts,” Lindzie Gunnels, commercial leasing manager with 3CDC, said in the release. “Christian has a lot to offer the community and Coffia is a welcome addition, serving as a melting pot where folks with different cultural roots can come together over a fantastic cup of coffee, or a delicious pastry or baked good.”

Coffia held its soft opening this past Saturday and will hold a grand opening Thursday, Aug. 3 with a DJ, free drinks and light bites.

Coffia’s regular hours will be 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Sunday; 6:30 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday through Wednesday; and 6:30 a.m.-9 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.
