#SweetonCincy: Aglamesis Bro's Encourages Random Acts of Kindness Ahead of Sweetest Day

A Cincinnati ice cream parlor and chocolate shop is again celebrating Sweetest Day with its annual pay-it-forward event.

Aglamesis Bro’s, which knows a thing or two about sweetness, is hosting its #SweetonCincy to encourage random acts of kindness leading up to the holiday on Saturday, Oct. 21. People are encouraged to use the hashtag #SweetonCincy and tag Aglamesis (@AglamesisBros) on social media to share how they’re paying it forward and showing kindness.

The company says paying it forward is all about Sweetest Day’s original purpose — not romance, but kindness. In the 1920s, the holiday became a day of philanthropy, with people sharing small tokens of appreciation to those with less.

“We’re taking Sweetest Day back to its roots and showing that even the tiniest gestures can make the world a sweeter place,” Aglamesis’ Kristi Weissman said in a press release.

As well as encouraging acts of kindness, Aglamesis is also honoring the day by highlighting its recent fair trade certification, which means its chocolates are made using fair trade cocoa and the farmers who grow the cocoa beans receive fair compensation for their work. To show its dedication to ethical and sustainable practices, the company is donating 5% of in-store candy purchases from Monday through Friday this week to the nonprofit Keep Cincinnati Beautiful.

“In the past few years, we have seen this event become a community celebration of kindness and paying it forward. We are extremely excited to earn our fair trade certification and to tie that into this year’s Sweetest Day. We hope to see this grow into a larger citywide commitment to sustainable practices and being kinder to the environment that we live in,” Weissman continued.

And on Sweetest Day Saturday, Aglamesis will give customers visiting its Oakley or Montgomery stores a caramel twist that comes with uplifting sayings, as well as coupons and other surprises.
