If you have a passion for food and travel, renowned Cincinnati chef Jose Salazar is offering you the culinary journey of a lifetime.

Through a trip with travel company Modern Adventure, Salazar, who owns popular Cincinnati restaurants like Mita’s and Goose & Elder, will help lead a cultural and culinary adventure through Peru next year. The trip takes place over seven days and six nights, April 13-19, in Lima, Cusco, the Sacred Valley and the world wonder of Machu Picchu.

“If you want to explore the heights of the Andes and experience true local culture and cuisine, this trip is for you. Explore artsy Lima, get hands-on with traditional Peruvian cuisine, hike the Inca Trail and experience sunrise over Machu Picchu. This is a true adventure of cuisine and culture,” reads the description on Modern Adventure.

During your trip, you’ll get to taste rich Peruvian flavors in indigenous street food offerings and from the markets, as well as in dishes with farm-to-table ingredients. You’ll also get to take part in a cooking class where you’ll make Peruvian classics; try Nikkei, a Japanese-Peruvian style of cooking; learn more about agriculture and its connection to Mother Earth, or Pachamama, at an indigenous farm in the Andes; harvest your own Andean ingredients to cook lunch; and meet a famous Peruvian chef who will share how ancient Incan traditions influence his modern style of cooking.

“The different elevations in Peru lend themselves to so many different styles of cooking. It’s incredible,” Salazar told Modern Adventure.

In addition to the culinary side of Peru, the trip also allows you to experience the cultural side. You’ll get to watch master artisans at work during a weaving demonstration, visit a family-owned distillery that produces some of the most unique spirits in the country and explore places ranging from the colorful food markets and hip barrios of Lima to the Maras Salt Flats and 15th-century city of Machu Picchu.

The cost of the trip starts at $8,000 per person. To see the full itinerary or book your trip, visit modernadventure.com.
