A community-wide campaign was launched on Wednesday to bring Sir Paul McCartney to the Queen City this summer.

Mayor Aftab Pureval and Vice Mayor Jan-Michele Lemon Kearney joined with leaders from Cincinnati Opera and other regional partners to debut the campaign, titled, “Come Together, Cincy! Get Paul to Music Hall!”

The campaign’s goal is to inspire McCartney to visit Cincinnati for the Cincinnati Opera’s performance of his classical piece, Liverpool Oratorio, which will have its world stage premiere at Cincinnati Music Hall on July 18, 20, 21, 25 and 27. Liverpool Oratorio is inspired by memories of McCartney’s childhood in Liverpool, England. The semi-autobiographical piece was co-written with composer Carl Davis.

McCartney has already shown support for the new production by the Cincinnati Opera.

“I believe that the Cincinnati Opera is uniquely positioned to bring this work to life in a new way, and I have no doubt that your production will be an inspiring experience for all who see it,” McCartney said in a letter to the Cincinnati Opera, according to a press release.

The “Come Together, Cincy!” campaign will be officially launched this weekend at Taste of Cincinnati.

“We’re looking forward to launching the ‘Come Together, Cincy!’ campaign this weekend at Taste of Cincinnati, courtesy of our partners at the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber,” said Chris Milligan, the Harry Fath General Director & CEO of Cincinnati Opera, said in a press release. “Attendees can stop by the Opera booth and record their video tribute to Sir Paul by sharing a favorite memory or singing a snippet of a McCartney tune.”

Partners also have planned events and activities to promote the campaign throughout the spring and summer prior to the performances of Liverpool Oratorio. Tri-State residents interested in participating in the campaign are encouraged to post a video tribute to McCartney under the hashtag #GetPaulToMusicHall, which will be amplified by “Come Together, Cincy!” partners and Cincinnati Opera.
