Shinedown, Godsmack and Breaking Benjamin to Headline Inkcarceration Festival

The festival is held at Mansfield's Ohio State Reformatory, the historic prison featured in The Shawshank Redemption.

On Feb. 7, promoters of the Inkcarceration Music & Tattoo Festival, the annual metal festival that takes place at Mansfield's Ohio State Reformatory, announced that Shinedown, Godsmack and Breaking Benjamin will headline this year's festival.

The festival will feature more than 50 bands on three stages and over 115 tattoo artists at an on-site tattoo convention from July 19-21.

During the festival, guests can also go on self-guided tours of the Ohio State Reformatory, a (reportedly) haunted prison where they filmed The Shawshank Redemption. The award-winning Blood Prison haunt will also be open during the festival for an additional fee.

“Inkcarceration was built on the foundation of community and passion.” says Dan Janssen, co-founder of Inkcarceration, in a press release, “We wanted to create a home for those who love all things rock, metal, and body art, and as we head into our sixth year celebrating three consecutive sold-out events, we’ve accomplished just that. We are expecting another sell-out year, let the countdown to INK 2024 begin!”

The duo, featuring Daisy Caplan on drums and classically trained vocalist and cellist Kate Wakefield, defy convention and build dark toned and varied cabaret punk between the two of them that sounds anything but minimal. Touchdown Jesus makes exploratory and wide-ranging songs that mix pop punk with math rock and jazz to interesting effect. Allen Otte Performs Frederic Rzewski’s The Fall of the Empire at Knox Presbyterian ChurchLocal ambitious music organization Collegium Cincinnati, committed to bringing both traditional and cutting edge performances to Cincinnati, present percussionist and professor Allen Otte performing a piece of music written for him by noted pianist and contemporary composer Frederic Rzewski, titled The Fall of the Empire. 4 p.m. Feb. 3. $10. Victoria Lekson, Caley Conway (Wisconsin) and Cathedral Becomes Tomb (Wisconsin) at Northside TavernHarpist Victoria Lekson performs alongside several artists around the city on a regular basis, but she’ll be center stage for this performance with her dynamic instrumentals that touch on a range of emotions. She’ll also collaborate with another of the lineup’s performers, innovative folk-pop singer-songwriter Caley Conway from Milwaukee. Cathedral Becomes Tomb creates experimental drone music with electronic accents from a classically trained double bass player on tour from Wisconsin. 9 p.m. Feb. 7. Free. Moonweather and Mutual Benefit (Brooklyn) at Bit Crusher Recording CompanyLocal band moonweather will perform in an intimate studio in a former church on the east side, Bit Crusher, with Mutual Benefit, a baroque-folk pop group on tour from Brooklyn. Mutual Benefit’s debut received a “Best New Music” rating from Pitchfork in 2013 and their latest release, Growing at the Edges, was also well received.
