Pink Floyd tribute band Signs of Life make their only hometown tour stop this Saturday at the Madison Theater in Covington. The winners of Cincinnati Magazine’s “Best Tribute Band” for 2011, Signs of Life delivers a powerfully authentic experience for its audience.
“This is not so much a Rock & Roll concert as it is a complete theatrical experience,” lead vocalist/guitarist (and dead ringer for David Gilmour) Jonathan Stankorb says. “Very reverential. Very British.”
In addition to rich, full-band arrangements, the show will also feature “intelligent” lights, hazing effects and rear projection video. Stankorb adds, “At a few select venues we even crash a 1/3 scale spitfire plane into the stage. Unfortunately, not for the Madison show.”
With a 130-song repertoire spanning from "Piper at the Gates of Dawn" to "The Division Bell," each Signs of Life show is unique, right down to the special effects. Stankorb speaks of the painstaking detail that goes into each production to maintain a sense of authenticity to Pink Floyd’s music — from the performance of the songs to the tone of the instruments to the harmonies of the backup singers. Eight musicians onstage and five technical crew members are committed to pleasing a discerning audience who, according to Stankorb, likely “has Pink Floyd in their DNA.” As a result, the show is not about the performers, it is about honoring the music. And Signs of Life does that extremely well.
