The Comet to Host Lineup of Local and Regional Musicians in Inaugural Holiday Invitational

The week between Christmas and New Year’s is a strange place where time seems to be suspended. This year, Northside bar The Comet is filling part of that weird void with its first-ever Holiday Invitational.

The Holiday Invitational will be held Friday, Dec. 29, starting at 6:30 p.m. Burrito Boys Booking partnered with Cincinnati punk band Stokelys to fill the evening with a lineup of great local and regional musicians.

“Anyone who's been part of a musical community knows just how many creative and talented people you’re likely to meet. Sometimes you meet another local act that tickles your fancy, sometimes you cross paths with travelers who really blow your mind. This event was created with the intent of celebrating and supporting one another while capping off the great year of independent music here in Cincinnati,” organizers said in a press release.

“There's nothing more important to artists than a supportive community,” said Stokelys guitarist Bryan Harsh in the release. “And we hope we can use this opportunity to show our support for local and traveling acts and expand those creative relationships.”

The Holiday Invitational’s lineup includes the Stokelys, as well as Cincinnati pop punk-emo band Scarlet Street; Siren Suit, which combines post-punk, alternative rock and elements of stoner metal; up-and-coming Columbus indie band Manor Gates; Southern Gothic rock outfit Caravan Discord; and Cincinnati’s leading folk-tronica musician Maria Keck.

Admission to the Holiday Invitational will be a pay-what-you-can donation at the door.

“Come hang out, eat a burrito and say goodbye to 2023 in style,” organizers said.

Stokelys have also said they intend to do a larger, weekend-long invitational event sometime in 2024.
