This year’s festival will be held at the ICON Festival Stage in Smale Park, and The National will headline both days of the festival and perform a unique set each night as a thank-you to their fans, says a press release. Other acts will include Patti Smith & Her Band, Pavement, Weyes Blood and The Walkmen.
On July 11, The National announced that they will be performing two albums from start to finish during both performances at the Homecoming Festival: High Violet on Sept. 15 and Trouble Will Find Me on Sept. 16.
According to a press release, High Violet, which celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2020, was originally intended to be the centerpiece of The National's performance during the Homecoming Festival in 2020, but the festival was inevitably canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2023, Trouble Will Find Me celebrates its 10th anniversary.
“When we launched Homecoming in 2018, we were overwhelmed by the response from the community and by our renewed sense of connection to our hometown. It was such an exciting, memorable weekend and we’ve long hoped to bring it back,” The National said in a press release. “We’re honored to return to Cincinnati five years later and be joined by so many of our favorite musicians and friends.”
The National’s newest album, First Two Pages of Frankenstein, came out April 28 and debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Alternative and Top Rock charts. On July 1, The National's Aaron Dessner took the stage at Taylor Swift's sold-out performance at Paycor Stadium. Dessner is a frequent collaborator of Swift's and co-produced her evermore and folklore albums.
