Several of Greater Cincinnati’s best original music makers are gigging on New Year’s Eve, and most of them are playing shows that won’t start eating into your 2011 finances before 2011 even starts. In fact, several NYE events starring local bands won’t cost you a cent thanks to one of the best trends to hit local music in decades: the “never a cover charge” policy.

For example, at Cincinnati’s best new live music venue, MOTR Pub (1345 Main St., Over-the-Rhine, 513-381-MOTR), you won’t have to pay $75 for a silly hat, an annoying horn and a cheap-champagne midnight toast. You will get to see and hear always awesome Indie/Electro crew The Seedy Seeds (pictured) and one of the area’s best purveyors of intelligent dance music, KFrey, all for the price of a ketchup packet from Wendy’s.

Yes, you will have to pay for your own drinks, so do bring your purse/wallet. But be thankful you don’t have to take out a second mortgage on your house to pay for one night on the town.
