I hope you didn't miss it, but if you did, here's the news flash: The 20th International Sculpture Conference was held right here in Cincinnati last week (see Jane Durrell's report on page 52). Several area galleries have been featuring corresponding exhibitions to celebrate all things sculptural, so make sure to check out the offerings.
Start your sculpture treasure hunt at MANIFEST GALLERY (2727 Woodburn Ave., Walnut Hills) with The Sculpted Line exhibition, which features three-dimensional works that explore the concept of drawing with sculpture. Participating artists include AMIE MCNEEL, DAVID SHINGLER, FELICIA SZORAD and TRAVIS TOWNSEND, and they offer a wide variety of sculptural interpretation, including a metal dress and a "water drawing instrument." Artist ANNE POTTER offers her take in an exhibition entitled Siblings in the main gallery. Get there before June 30 to take it all in.
THE CARNEGIE VISUAL + PERFORMING ARTS CENTER (1028 Scott Blvd., Covington) introduces its new outdoor sculpture garden, formerly the building's south lawn, as part of the conference. The garden features sculpture from more than 10 artists, including CHRIS DANIEL and KIRK MAYHEW, who are part of the Thin Air Studio triumvirate with RICHARD FRUTH. The type of sculpture varies, but you'll find abstract pieces, sculpture mixed with ecology, metal, clay and much more. Stop by for a visit before July 8.

If you're continuing on the sculpture trek, head back to the Ohio side for a visit to the Brighton arts district, which seems to be the epicenter for sculpture, even post-conference. First stop could be SEMANTICS GALLERY (1107 Harrison Ave.) for Sculpture Zone 2, which features work from nine area sculptors, including ALICE PIXLEY YOUNG, RHONDA GUSHEE and VOSS FINN. A variety of sculpture types are a part of the exhibition including abstract and figures. Although the gallery opened for special hours during the conference, the opening reception is 7-11 p.m. Friday. Don't miss a first look at this collection. Through July 22. ...
Head right down the street to the one-time only STUDIO B SCULPTURE INVITATIONAL at 426 Findlay Street. This 17,000 square foot warehouse space showcases sculpture by more than 50 local and regional sculptors in an exclusive exhibition created to spotlight area sculpture in connection with the conference. I've heard that you'll see some fantastic work here, but don't take my word for it: Go see for yourself (and see Jane's commentary in her article). Stop by the closing reception at 7:30-10 p.m. Friday. ...
Right next door, step into CARL SOLWAY GALLERY (424 Findlay St.) for their tribute to sculpture simply entitled An Exhibition of Contemporary Sculpture. This exhibition also features a large group of artists — 31 to be exact — of regional, national and international acclaim. Some local talent, including JAY BOLOTIN, CARMEL BUCKLEY and ANTHONY LUENSMAN, populates the exhibition as well. Techniques and materials are diverse, including bronze and steel, found objects, garments and beads, wire, glass and much more. Held specifically to complement the Sculpture Conference, this show has spectacular pieces to behold — so get a move on. Through July 29.
