When I think “family portrait,” I think of a cheesy ensemble of contrived, goofy-looking glossy 5x7’s shot in the back of a JC Penney store that will inevitably end up forgotten, stuffed away in a desk drawer. In my mind, that’s not something worth spending money on. Aside from providing beers or “something stiffer,” to help you relax, the foundations of The Simple Portrait Project are anything but trite; this modernized holiday family portrait session thrives on simplicity and creativity, using only one light, one prop, no descriptive backdrop and a 30-minute session — all components designed to make your family shine in its most natural state. Isn’t that what’s worth remembering? Weekends through Dec. 8. Prices vary; see website for details. 842 Monmouth St., Newport, Ky. thesimpleportraitproject.com.
