Anyone who wants a flu shot can receive one at several of the city of Cincinnati’s public health clinics.—-
The Cincinnati Health Department is offering free shots for Ohio residents ages 3 and older, to help them ward off influenza during the winter months. People who have Medicare Part B benefits are asked to bring their cards for billing purposes. Others will be asked to make a small donation to cover administrative costs, but no one will be turned away.
Shots are available at various clinics throughout the city, depending on the day of the week.
The shots will be given on a walk-in basis from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the following locations and days.
** Monday-Friday: Ambrose Clement Health Center, 3101 Burnet Ave., Avondale, (513) 357-7300;
** Monday: Braxton F. Cann Medical Center, 5818 Madison Road, Madisonville, (513) 268-8750;
** Tuesday: Millvale Health Center, 3301 Beekman Ave., Millvale, (513) 352-3192;
** Wednesday: Northside Health Center, 3917 Spring Grove Ave., Northside, (513) 357-7600;
** Thursday: Elm Street Health Center, 1525 Elm St., Over-the-Rhine, (513) 352-3092;
** Friday: Price Hill Health Center, 2136 W. Eighth St., Price Hill, (513) 357-2700.
Health Department officials urge residents to protect themselves against the flu, which is an infection of the respiratory tract caused by a virus. Most people who get the flu recover completely within one to two weeks, but some develop serious and potentially life-threatening medical complications such as pneumonia.
Influenza and pneumonia result in about 36,000 deaths each year across the United States.
