“I was the fat, weird kid,” recalls comedian Lisa Landry. “I was the geeky kid who was socially awkward and had a very sassy mouth.” And, like other kids, she didn’t get along with her brother at times. “He’s gay, so it was mostly over taking my dresses.” Today, she lives in Los Angeles with her husband and young son and has made appearances on The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson and Comedy Central, and she is also a sometimes member of the US Magazine fashion police.

On stage she talks mostly about family and friends and not so much about current events. “I try not to follow them too closely because it’s all such crap and I don’t really do political humor because people get so polarized by stuff now,” she says. “It’s not like you can have a normal conversation. These days people just lose their minds.” Even the financial crisis has been hard for her to follow, despite her husband trying to explain Wall Street to her: “I’m from Louisiana, I know Bourbon Street. To me a ‘bailout’ is when one of your friends rescue you from some ugly guy at the bar.”

Lisa Landry performs at Go Bananas Comedy Club Thursday at 7:30 p.m. (18 and up) $15 and at 10 p.m. (21 and older). Tickets to the NYE performance are $45. Landry also performs at 8 and 10:30 p.m. Saturday and 8 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $8-$12.
