Attitude and artistic flair— the only words fitting enough to describe Montgomery’s Bastille Day Celebration. The significance of the event is to celebrate Montgomery’s relationship with sister city, Nieully-Plaissance, France. To the French, Bastille Day is a national holiday held each year on July 14 to commemorate the storming of the Bastille in 1789. Montgomery’s event centers on the very different cultures of Montgomery and Nieully-Plaissance. Special Bastille Day features include beer tasting, “Tour de Montgomery” bike rides, a Guitar Hero booth, a fashion show, a cooking Demo and an art exhibit. Bastille Day will be held in historic downtown Montgomery from noon-11 p.m. on Saturday.
