World Car Free Day is Sept. 22, and you can join the movement by ditching your vehicle for a more eco-friendly form of transportation.

Cincinnati Metro and Access paratransit are offering free rides all day to celebrate this international initiative, which "encourages motorists to give up their automobiles for a day and promotes public transit, bicycling, walking, carpooling and telecommuting," per a release.

They are also offering a slew of activities from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on Fountain Square, including live music from 3 Piece Revival, free Snappy Tomato Pizza and giveaways and prizes.

And if you can't make the Car Free Day party, you can click go-metro.com/carfreedaycincy through Sept. 25 and take a car-free pledge to register to win other goodies, like a four-pack of Cincinnati Cyclones tickets or a $100 Hard Rock Casino gift card.

“Metro is excited to join communities across the globe in shining a light on the importance of decreasing individuals’ reliance on cars and celebrating alternative modes of getting where they need to go,” said Metro CEO Darryl Haley in the same release. “With the recent rollout of our far-reaching Reinventing Metro service improvements, we’re working to make it easier than ever to enjoy the many benefits of public transit whether you choose to ride for environmental, cost savings or convenience purposes.”

The Reinventing Metro plan offers 24/7 rides on seven routes, plus more frequent or longer hours on others. The five-year plan also includes goals to build new transit centers, improve onboard tech and WiFi and add new routes.
