Write for Rights
Amnesty International hosts an evening of poetry, performance and music at 8 p.m. March 16 at the Greenwich in Walnut Hills. "Write for Rights" is a night of intense performance poetry to raise awareness of Amnesty International and to recognize the fourth anniversary of the U.S. invasion of Iraq. Experience a diverse range of poetry from performers/artists including Abiyah, Kid Lucky, Dana Ward, John Parker and Jarvis Tubbs. An open mic will be available for all who want to participate. Learn What the Police Learn
The Cincinnati Police Department is accepting applications for the next session of its Citizens Police Academy, which begins March 28. Classes meet for three hours on eight consecutive Wednesdays at the Police Academy, 800 Evans Street. The course provides an overview of the training police officers receive and the functions they perform. Topics covered include law enforcement issues and police procedures in such areas as laws of arrest; community problem oriented policing (CPOP); internal investigations; use of force; drug law enforcement; gangs; and personal safety.

Wise Immigration Forum
Wise Temple in Amberley Village hosts a forum on immigration at 7 p.m. March 12. The panel includes an attorney for the Legal Aid Society, a professor of economics, a historian and a priest involved in Hispanic ministry. Death Penalty Moratorium
The American Civil Liberties Union of Ohio presents "Broken Justice: A Look Inside Ohio's Death Penalty System" at 7 p.m. March 27 at St. John's Unitarian Universalist Church in Clifton. The program includes a letter writing station for people to urge Ohio's elected officials to put a moratorium on the death penalty and create a commission to study the system. Creative Resistance
The 2007 SOS Art Show, which highlights a variety of artistic forms on themes of peace and justice, is accepting applications from artists. The show, in its fifth year, is May 25-June 3 at the Art Academy of Cincinnati. The deadline for receipt of application is May 4, 2007. The Mayor Will See You Now
Cincinnati Mayor Mark Mallory meets twice a month with anyone who has an issue or problem to discuss with him. "Mayors Night In" is from 5-7 p.m. in the mayor's office at City Hall. Every citizen who attends has a five-minute individual meeting to talk about anything they wish. Meetings are assigned in the order that individuals sign in, with sign-ins beginning at 4:30 pm. The next sessions are March 20, April 10 and 24, May 8 and 22 and June 5 and 19.
Documentary Series Seeks 'One World'
The Seven Hills School, in conjunction with Cincinnati Earth Institute, presents its Spring 2007 community film series, "One World: Building A Sustainable Future," focusing on global awareness and environmental sustainability. Each film provides an opportunity for members of the school and Greater Cincinnati communities to discuss global challenges and some of the ways human ingenuity can work with the natural world to meet them. The films will be shown monthly, January through May, at no charge in Founders Hall on the Hillsdale Campus, 5400 Red Bank Road. The films begin at 7 p.m. For more information, call 271-9027. Build a New World
Xavier University's second annual Vision of Hope speaker series is based on the theme, "Five Pillars of a New World Building," explored in a video by Benjamin J. Urmston, S.J., director of Peace and Justice Programs at XU. The topic of the final session is "Nonviolence." The program is from 7-9 p.m. March 19 in the Schiff Family Conference Center. Admission is free.
