Northern Kentucky University (NKU) is set to launch its news Direct Admit Program, becoming the first public university in the Tri-State and Kentucky to offer direct admission.

In an effort to ease the complexity and time-consuming nature of traditional college admissions, the program allows eligible students to skip the standard application process and fees, receiving direct admission to NKU based on specific criteria.

Dr. Ryan Padgett, associate provost at NKU, said the decision reflects the university's commitment to inclusivity and removing barriers in higher education.

"The introduction of the Direct Admit Program reflects NKU’s commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment by removing barriers to higher education," Padgett said in a press release.

High school students with a GPA above 2.75 will receive direct admission offers, allowing them to initiate the formal enrollment process.

"The Direct Admit Program is another example of how NKU is supporting our students and families within the region," said NKU president Cady Short-Thompson. "By offering direct admission to qualified students, we are setting a precedent for higher education in the 21st century in the region and the Commonwealth of Kentucky."

The Direct Admit Program opens up on Aug. 1 for students considering enrollment for the fall 2025 semester. Those interested in learning more about the program and eligibility criteria can visit nku.edu.
