Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati knows how to turn a kid into a STAR. That’s the name of the theater company’s summer program providing an intense four weeks of musical theater training for talented kids ages 9 to 18. Their efforts culminate in a production on Thursday, Friday and Saturday of The Legend of Pocahontas at Northern Kentucky University’s Corbett Theatre. The show will use 89 kids, directed by Roderick Justice, the Children’s Theatre’s associate artistic director. Angela Powell-Walker, the company’s artistic director, is serving as musical director. Jon Lorenz wrote the show, which uses Rock-styled orchestrations by three-time Grammy nominee Hank Feldman. Making this all the more interesting in terms of who’s involved, it’s a co-production of NKU’s Commonwealth Theatre Company within their summer theater season. It’s a two-hour production, geared for kids ages 8 and older. $15. Northern Kentucky University Corbett Theatre, Highland Heights. 513-569-8080, x10.
