Selma

Director Ava DuVernay (Middle of Nowhere) and newbie screenwriter Paul Webb wisely choose a key and pivotal moment in the Civil Rights struggle — the epic march from Selma to Montgomery, Ala., in 1965 — to serve as the focal point in their exploration of the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. So often biopics aim too broadly to tell the whole story of a life when, it appears, it is the individual moments that truly define who we are. Expect to hear much about DuVernay, Webb and stars David Oyelowo (as King), Tom Wilkinson (as President Lyndon B. Johnson), Tim Roth (as George Wallace) and Carmen Ejogo (as Coretta Scott King) throughout this awards season as the film’s life takes shape.
