The Schoolhouse is one hell of a haunt. Josh, Bud and Chuck (owner operators/Board of Deaducation) have assembled a slick horror-movie-style production. Period antiques, authentic materials such as a lunch counter and overhead projector and fine attention to detail make the experience immersive. It’s a real schoolhouse, and it really feels like a trip to the Twilight Zone.

Since half the fun of a haunt is the anticipation, you’ll enhance your experience by reviewing the Web site before you visit and read how the school’s janitor, Charlie McFee, murdered all the students. You’ll pass walls that threaten to fall in, a psychotic laboratory, a haunted auto shop classroom that’s complete with a classic ride and the skeletal remains of its driver and passenger and the cafeteria lady of your worst dreams.

On your way into the basement you’ll pass the dangling, wiggling body of a teacher who couldn’t take the madness anymore. The depths are filled with oozing toxic sludge and skilled creeps who come at you from trap doors and hidden nooks. The pursuit is nonstop and terrifying. Many of the familiar scenes have been updated and improved. New this year is a chainlink fence maze, Detention Hall, that’s loaded with ghouls. Bravo!
