If your aspirations include playwriting, New Edgecliff Theatre is offering a weekend intensive playwriting workshop for anyone age 16-22 — from beginners who have never dabbled in playwriting, to professionals wanting to get back to the basics. Catie O’Keefe, a professional playwright who is NET’s playwright-in-residence, will lead the workshops.—-
The “Introduction to Playwriting” course is open to anyone 16-22 years of age with an interest in playwriting. No previous experience is required. The cost for this weekend course is $90/participant. (Payment due prior to the first day of class.) Composition books and writing instruments will be provided. Each workshop is limited to 10 participants.
Three weekend workshops are set for this fall at Chase Public, a new collaborative art and assembly space in Northside, at 1569 Chase Ave., Suite 4:
- · Sept. 17 (9:30 a.m.-4 p.m.)-Sept. 18 (11 a.m.-4:30 p.m.)
- · Oct. 22 (9:30 a.m.-4 p.m.)-Oct. 23 (11 a.m.-4:30 p.m.)
- · Nov. 19 (9:30 a.m.-4 p.m.)-Nov. 20 (11 a.m.-4:30 p.m.)
O’Keefe is a theater graduate of Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon; she earned her master’s degree in playwriting from Royal Holloway University of London. Her work has been performed in London and at the 2008 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Her latest projects include a reading of The Burning Mann at the Aronoff Center (March 2011, presented by Cincinnati Playwrights Initiative) and Darker at Know Theatre (produced by NET during the 2011 Cincinnati Fringe Festival). She is currently a recipient of the Peggy Ramsay Grant and continues to work in both the U.K. and the U.S.
