Director of Business Development - Sauce Events
Job description
The ideal candidate will direct the business development activities of the organization and drive the sales business. They will play a key role in our Sauce Events - Themed Week division on the generation of new business. Events include Restaurant Week, Burger Week, Taco Week, Wing Week and more. Markets include (but not limited to): Cincinnati, St. Louis, Detroit, Louisville, Lansing and Indianapolis.
Responsibilities
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain a robust sales pipeline through b2b prospecting, pre-call planning, needs analysis, presentations, and closings
- Track client's success and collaborate with team members on strategies to grow and retain business year over year
- Activate new sponsorship opportunities and continually identify vendor and sponsor brands that align with themed weeks.
- Create customized marketing proposals and media campaigns for themed weeks
- Understand that every business in each region's market is a potential prospect
- Perform with a high level of activity to successfully meet internal performance metrics
- Provide superior customer service and reporting to clients in order to retain and grow business
- Provide recaps for sponsors in a timely manner upon each event conclusion
- Maintain a thorough and current knowledge of each themed week media solutions portfolio, including ever-growing digital marketing solutions (SEO, Paid Media, Digital Display Advertising, Social Media, Programmatic Advertising, E-mail Marketing, and more) and resources in order to drive additional value to vendor commitment.
- Maintain a thorough knowledge of past and current account histories and statuses
- Fulfill functions and duties of the position in a professional and timely manner
- Work with Publisher, and Social Media Manager on creating new revenue opportunities ie digital, video, social for themed weeks.
- Manage sales functions of the business
- Provide feedback to company leadership on sales related topics
- Plan and coordinate the penetration of new markets
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- Demonstrated track record of increasing revenue through generation of leads
- 2-5 Years of Sales Experience
- Strong communication and negotiation skills

- Maintain ownership of the sales cycle from first contact through maintenance

- Shadow CityBeat’s staff news writer during field interviews, press conferences and during breaking news events
- Shoot photos on a standard DSLR camera and on iPhone
- Republish syndicated content from partner publications and Creative Commons sites
- 1-3 years experience writing for an online or print publication, including student news organizations or freelance outlets
- 1-3 years of higher education majoring in journalism, communications, English or a related department
- An energetic willingness to learn and accept constructive feedback
- Experience shooting and editing photos using Adobe Photoshop or related editing programs
- Experience shooting and editing iPhone video for TikTok and Instagram Reels

News Internship for Summer 2024

This intern will be fully immersed in CityBeat’s day-to-day news operation, ranging from writing quick-turn news updates to assisting with longform investigative storytelling.

The internship is unpaid. You should be able to join us for 12-15 hours each week and have transportation (or the ability to access public transit), since we’ll be sending you out on assignment. You must live within our coverage area for that same reason.

Photography/Web Edit Internship for Summer 2024
Compensation: Recommendations for college credit
Schedule: Varies based on credit requirements, but generally 8-10 hours per week
Position Summary: Our photography/edit internship gives students the opportunity to further their education in photojournalism and editorial photography as well as content creation. Interns will schedule, photograph and edit photos that will be used alongside stories in print and online in articles/blogs/slideshows. Interns will gain experience in event photography with CityBeat-hosted events as well as events held throughout the city. In addition to photography, interns will also learn how to source, build slideshows and create captions that will be used on the web.
Requirements/Qualifications: Interns should be comfortable with basic journalistic and photography principles. High ethics are required. You should have your own photography equipment and be familiar with Photoshop/Lightroom. While our hours are flexible, interns must also cope with a varying workload. The ideal intern is an avid CityBeat reader and someone familiar with the sides of Cincinnati we cover.

Editorial Internship for Summer 2024
Compensation: Recommendations for college credit; parking reimbursement of up to $5/day
Schedule: Varies based on credit requirements, but generally 8-10 hours per week
Position Summary: Internship revolves around working directly with CityBeat editorial staff to help produce the weekly print and online content.
Requirements/Qualifications: Interns are required to be pursuing a degree or certificate in journalism. We are looking for highly motivated, skilled writers with a working knowledge of AP style. Interns should have taken courses including news writing and journalism law and ethics. Advanced feature writing courses are preferable. While our hours are somewhat flexible, interns must also cope with a varying workload. The ideal intern is an avid CityBeat reader and someone familiar with the sides of Cincinnati we cover.
