Cyclists soon will have a new connection to local and regional trails.

Great Parks of Hamilton County has begun construction for the Beechmont Bridge Connector. The project will allow users to safely travel from the Little Miami Scenic Trail to the Ohio River Trail for the first time.

“VERY exciting news: We’re breaking ground on the Beechmont Bridge Connector,” Great Parks tweeted on Feb. 18.

In a press release, Great Parks says that the new half-mile connector will be the final extension and most significant section of the Little Miami Scenic Trail.

“This last, critical piece of the Little Miami Scenic Trail will link hundreds of thousands of people to more recreation, entertainment, and business opportunities, plus many parks and preserves throughout Southwest Ohio,” Todd Palmeter, CEO of Great Parks, says in a statement. “The public identified this regional trail as a priority in our Comprehensive Master Plan, and I’m looking forward to the day when people will use this segment to enjoy one of the most expansive and interlinked trail systems in the state.”

The new connector will link the existing Little Miami Scenic Trail terminus near State Route 32 and Beechmont with the Otto Armleder Memorial Park to Lunken Trail and the future Elstun Road Connector, the news release says.

A groundbreaking celebration will take place March 8.

Great Parks began designing the $7.9 million Beechmont Bridge Connector last summer, with assistance from the City of Cincinnati and the Ohio Department of Transportation. The organization expects work to be completed by summer or fall of 2022.

The paved Little Miami Scenic Trail is 78 miles long and runs from Anderson Township northeast to Springfield. The Beechmont Bridge Connector is part of Tri-State Trails’ CROWN initiative to link the region’s trails.
