What could be more fun than throwing an axe at a non-human target? Covington’s new Flying Axes venue wants you to find out when they open on July 7 with free admission and Braxton beer.

Flying Axes, a Louisville-based axe throwing company, is expanding operations into Covington and they're celebrating with an opening party. Located in Covington's former historic firehouse and Tickets Sports Cafe, this event invites the public (ages 13 and older and wearing closed-toe shoes) to participate in mini axe-throwing competitions throughout the day, so you can learn the basics and try your hand at throwing an axe into a target that is 15 feet away.

It's $5 for 15 minutes of throwing, and if you hit a bullseye during your throw time, you'll be entered to win a prize. Targets are located within a fenced-in area for patron protection.

Braxton Brewing Co. will also be on hand serving some brews. Note: You cannot throw axes if you are intoxicated, for obvious reasons. After the opening, Flying Axes will be open for walk-ins, leagues, group bookings, etc.

Grand opening party 2-8 p.m. July 7. 100 W. Sixth St., Covington. More info at facebook.com/flyingaxescovington.
