Some stellar storytelling will be happening in Westwood this weekend with the return of the Cincinnati Storytelling Festival.

This will be the third year for the festival, which features national and local professional storytellers from a variety of backgrounds and traditions. It’ll kick off Thursday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. at West Side Brewing with the preview night and run through Saturday, Oct. 21, with performances held at the Madcap Education Center Friday and Saturday.

The festival is organized by Cincinnati’s Paul Strickland, a Cincinnati Fringe Festival favorite and nationally acclaimed storyteller who recently returned from performing at the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough, Tennessee. Joining Strickland on the stage will be national storytellers Megan Hicks, best known for her fairy tales, parodies and American history stories, and Antonio Rocha, who will bring his unique fusion of mime and spoken word to the Westood stage.

Storytimes include the free “Twisted Tales” Thursday night, where you’ll get to hear stories with a “whole lot of good weird” in them, as well as “Spooky Stories” Friday night for the Halloween season and a storyteller Q&A and “Old Tales Told New,” reimaginings of age-old stories, on Saturday. You can see the full schedule here.

The festival is recommended for people ages 13 and older and most performances are $15. There are also day passes for Friday ($25) and Saturday ($30) or a $50 weekend pass. You can buy tickets and find more information at cincystoryfest.com.
