The Ohio River Foundation (ORF) is bringing the annual Wild & Scenic Film Festival to Over-the-Rhine this April to showcase Cincinnati’s love of nature and commitment to environmental activism.

The festival will be held Friday, April 19 at the Woodward Theater starting at 7:30 p.m. Doors will open at 6 p.m. for food, refreshments and socializing. A series of short films from environmental filmmakers from all over the world will be featured. There will also be light bites, a cash bar and a raffle.

The Wild & Scenic Film Festival began in 2003 by the watershed advocacy group South Yuba River Citizens League in California. The festival partners with environmental groups across the country to host local film festivals as a way to inspire conservation activism in the community, as well as raise funds to combat environmental issues.

The Ohio River Foundation (ORF), a regional conservation nonprofit headquartered in Cincinnati, says the film festival is a natural extension of its work to inspire people to act on behalf of the environment.

“Concerned citizens worldwide know the urgency of the many environmental crises facing our planet today, but most don’t know how they can contribute to the fight. Now, attendees in Cincinnati can support their own local advocates for the environment by attending Ohio River Foundation’s Wild & Scenic Film Festival on Tour event,” ORF said in a press release.

This year, there will be 11 featured films ranging in topics from improving rivers’ ecosystems by getting rid of manmade barriers, California’s unique kelp forests and the mission to clean up Ohio’s coal mines. You can see a full list of films and their descriptions here.

Proceeds from the festival will support ORF’s mission of education, restoration and advocacy programs to help protect the Ohio River watershed.

Tickets to the Wild & Scenic Film Festival are $30 online or $35 at the door. You can buy those here.
