If you’re looking for a fun road trip idea, dozens of silver Airstream trailers will line the streets of Logan, Ohio, the first weekend in May for the annual Urban Air: Wake Up Downtown Festival.

The festival will feature three blocks of Main Street in downtown Logan — located in Ohio’s Hocking Hills region, just a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Cincinnati — lined with about 70 Airstream trailers from all over the United States and Canada. The trailers will be on display from Thursday-Sunday, May 2-5, but organizers say the best time to see them will be Friday and Sunday. Main Street will also be shut down to other vehicular traffic to create a safe pedestrian mall.

At Urban Air, visitors can learn more about life in an Airstream trailer. Expect music to fill the air, as the Airstream way of life means owners often play guitar or harmonica, or share stories with these expert travelers and hear firsthand what it’s like to own and travel in these popular, Ohio-made trailers.

There will also be a “Pimp Your Blimp” decorating contest, where attendees can vote on their favorite trailer. This year’s theme is “In Our Element,” with entries focusing on “pure science such as fire, water and earth, or more metaphysical concepts such as compositions, properties, reactions and, of course, good chemistry,” according to a press release. There will also be a juried student art competition under the same theme, with awards and prizes for local art students.

On that Friday, visitors can see comedian Ricky Glore at the historic Logan Theater & Community Arts Center at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased here. Then on Saturday, there will be live musical performances from local favorites Audie Wykle, Rick Miller and The Band Riff Street at the Logan Town Square, with more live music in Worthington Park from 2-6 p.m.

In addition to being fun and educational, Urban Air also raises money for the community through the trailer-decorating contest and an auction to benefit downtown development and local charities in Logan.

You can learn more about the Urban Air festival at wakeupdowntown.com. Tickets for attendees are $10 and an Airstream camping spot is $115. Both of those can be bought here.
