The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden's new carousel

The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden’s highly anticipated carousel is now open, and you could win the chance to get your name on one of the animals.

Offering up some feel-good nostalgia, the new zoo carousel is housed in a vintage-inspired, open-air gazebo with an old-timey boardwalk and offers views of the zoo’s Swan Lake. It features 65 animals, including two hippos. The zoo is now selling entries to win a plaque with your name on it that will be placed at the base of the carousel's hippo seats.

“The new carousel is spectacular and includes a variety of animal seats. There are two hippos, and we know that people will want to hop on those,” said Cincinnati Zoo director Thane Maynard in a release. “Some of the carousel costs were covered by generous donors, and their names are on plaques on some of the animals. We thought it would be fun to open the hippo naming opportunity to the public.”

Each entry is $5 and comes with a carousel ticket, or you can get five entries and one carousel ticket for $20. If you win, you also get to take a tour of Hippo Cove and meet its residents: Fiona, Fritz, Bibi and Tucker.

Maynard said the carousel will also be open during Tunes & Blooms concerts on Thursday nights throughout April.
