Annual Homemade Pie Baking Contest

Brink Brewing Co. is inviting all bakers — and pie eaters — to its College Hill taproom for its second annual Homemade Pie Baking Contest on Saturday, Aug. 10. Starting at noon, contestants will put their recipes to the test against more than 40 competitors.

While only one pie entry will be named best in show by a judging panel, there will be several opportunities to snag a title. Each category will name a first-place winner, and attendees will also be voting on their favorite pie for the people’s choice prize.

Categories include fruit, nut, cream and savory, among others. A minimum of two identical pies are required so one can be used for the judges and one for people’s choice.

Pies will be judged on appearance, texture and taste, and their creators will remain anonymous until after the competition. Judges include Loveland Lifestyle magazine editor Stephanie Meinberg; College Hill Cakery’s trio of Kathy Robbins Goldschmidt, Jamie Goldschmidt and Alicia Goldschmidt; and Brink representatives Mark Landers and Debbie Jean.

Best in show will be awarded two Crowler fills, a Brink apron and a Brink glass; first place in each category will receive one Crowler fill and either a Brink T-shirt or hat; and people’s choice champs will be awarded one Crowler fill and Brink glass. Prizes will be awarded at approximately 4 p.m. in the taproom. Registration is free and will end at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 8.

Brink is also releasing two event-inspired drinks in honor of the competition: a graham cracker blueberry and blackberry ale and a white chocolate moozie milk stout.
