Covington is losing a hub of mac & cheese and beer as Keystone Bar & Grill announced it’ll be permanently closing the doors of its Greenup Street restaurant.

Dan Cronican, managing partner of 4EG, the group that owns the Keystone eateries, made the announcement on the restaurant’s social media Monday.

“Fans of Keystone, lovers of mac + cheese, bacchanalians, beer drinkers, brunchers, and friends, It is with tremendous gratitude that I share this message. After a memorable 16 years in the heart of Covington, Keystone Bar & Grill will serve the neighborhood their last B.B. Kings, Bell's Oberon Ales, and mimosa pitchers on Friday, September 1,” Cronican shared.

Cronican did not share a reason Keystone Bar & Grill was closing, but said the change will open doors as 4EG expands across Cincinnati, Columbus, Chicago and more.

“Despite the end of the Keystone era, 4EG continues to grow. Keystone has been a major part of 4EG and helped drive its success for many years, with many employees - managers and staff alike - beginning their careers with the company at Keystone,” he wrote.

Keystone’s Mac Shack on Short Vine in Corryville, as well as their locations in Athens and the one opening in Columbus in 2024, however, will remain open.

Keystone Bar & Grill first opened in 2007 as one of the original establishments in the Roebling Point District. They’ll host a Last Bash Monday-Friday, Aug. 28-Sept. 1, with their last weekend brunch on Aug. 26-27.
